Reach San Benito

PG&E and R.E.A.C.H. Partner in Tree Planting Day

Trees: without them our parks and trails would be very different places. Trees provide a leafy canopy of shade where we can play, have a picnic, enjoy a walk, and relax in comfort. Trees cool their surroundings, buffer the winds, and their leaves improve the soil beneath them. Trees add to the economic vitality of a place. Recognizing the contribution of trees to our parks and open spaces, REACH San Benito Parks Foundation partners with donors to facilitate planting of shade trees in parks throughout San Benito County. We are very grateful for the support of our donors and volunteers!
REACH and PG&E recently partnered to plant trees at the San Benito County Historical Park. PG&E’s generous grant provided for 12 shade trees to be planted in the recreational area of the park, to replace some of the dead and diseased trees that had been removed earlier this year. Volunteers from PG&E, REACH, and the San Benito County Historical Society gathered to plant the trees including California Live Oak, Valley Oak, Cork Oak, Scarlet Oak and Frontier Elm. Trees chosen are drought-tolerant, as well as pest and disease resistant. Many are native to California and will provide food and shelter for local birds as well as fall color for park visitors. Thank you, PG&E and thanks also to Recology San Benito County for donating a mountain of mulch, and County Park staff for their ongoing coordination!
PG&E’s grant also provided materials for Barn Owl nesting boxes to be assembled in an upcoming workshop. More to follow on that fun and important topic…follow REACH San Benito Parks Foundation on Facebook to stay in touch!
REACH San Benito Parks Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit that advocates for outdoor recreation throughout San Benito County.
